In our modern society we have smart technologies, smart machines, we rebuilt our cities to be smart, we want our energy-grid smart.
This is a good thing. The smartness of a thing means it is resilient, energy efficient, it avoids wearing of and reduces waste. This is what we mean when a thing is called smart.
A smart city is build to reduce unnecessary energy and water consumption, to optimize the traffic, to reduce waste and to be flexible and resilient. A smart device is built for example to reduce the own energy consumption and/or the energy consumption of an attached device.
This is a good thing. Doing more with less is an important skill to have.
Living feeling beings are not like machines or artificial systems. We grow only on obstacles we overcome or even when we fail in the struggle of overcoming. And the struggle is not always a physical. Humans grew more strong, more resilient, more competent in physical, intellectual or psychological stress. And not even can we grow and evolve as individuals, we can also devolve and regress when we refuse the struggle and choose the smart path of light decisions and less obstacles.
Talking about morals, being smart is in my opinion even the worst decision to make, not even for just the individual, but also for the whole network of interconnected beings.
